1st Week of School

We have finished our first week of school! Hooray!!! It has been a fun, busy week. We have been reading stories, practicing our letters, writing in our journals, and just getting to know each other. There are 25 students in our class with 1 more starting on Monday. Our classroom is full with 26 little bodies walking around. I can tell that everyone is eager to learn and have fun.
I should let you know that we have a foster grandma in our classroom just in case you ever hear your child talk about Grandma. Grandma Anita is helping us every morning for a couple of hours. The students will be reading their sight words and books to her, and she will help them during centers. She also helps me with some cutting and glueing projects. We love having her in our class.

We won't be starting official homework until after SEPs, so just make sure you are reading with your children every night for at least 20 minutes. This means that you can read to them, help them to read, and have them read to you. This is the year that they will make big jumps in their reading ability, but I know that they will make even bigger jumps with help at home as well as at school. I also know that your children will love that time with you. I can still remember how it felt to have my mother read to me at night. It is treasured time!

This week we are back to full days. Please make sure that your child is getting plenty of sleep at night. These full days are going to wear them out! They will start going to specialties (P.E., music, library) on Monday. I know they are excited about that because they keep asking me when P.E. starts every day this past week.

I am loving your children already. They are so full of energy and ready to learn!!!
